A lot of misunderstandings exists when it comes to menstruation. In this post we put some myths and facts straight.
1. If you have unprotected sex during your period, you can not get pregnant
This is a common mistake. If you look to the course of your cycle you might think it is indeed true, but nothing is less true. If your cycle is (still) irregular you have to be careful, because there is a possibility that you ovulate during your period and therefor you could get pregnant.
2. Every woman suffers from PMS
This is a myth because not all women suffer from PMS.It is highly dependent on your age, menstrual cycle and hormonal changes.
3. No menstruation
The absence of menstruation is usually the result of a change in the hormonal balance. Disruptions of the hormonal balance may occur due to emotional factors or sudden physical changes such as weight loss, excessive exercise, certain medications or diseases. Another cause of not menstruating may be when you stop taking the pill. In that case your period may even be several months late. Of course, menstruation will stop completely when a woman enters menopause, around the age of 50.
4. Sports during menstruation is bad for you
Doing sports during your menstruation may actually be nice, because exercise helps to stretch the muscles in your abdomen, which can reduce or alleviate menstrual cramps. Another physical activity that helps relieve menstrual pain is sex; when you have an orgasm the muscles in the abdomen relax which eased the pain. For exercise and being intimate with your partner, during menstruation, you can use the special Beppy Soft + Comfort tampon.
